Air Medical Limited (AirMed) is the largest, UK based, fixed-wing air ambulance operator in the UK. With thousands of successful missions behind them, they have a considerable amount of experience which is portrayed in the quality of care they provide for their patients on all of their flights.
It is mainly due to this care and quality ethic that Alpha Paramedic & Ambulance Service decided to work with AirMed. On top of this AirMed can provide a wide range of choices for the patient in terms of medical team specialisation (e.g. anaesthetics, cardiology, neonatal, orthopaedics etc) and aircraft type.
You can rest assured that the best level of care will always be provided if you choose Alpha Paramedic & Ambulance Service and AirMed for your air ambulance assignment.
In 2010, during their 25th year of operations, AirMed was recognised for their experience and high level of care provision by being given Full Accreditation “Special Care” by EURAMI (The European Aeromedical Institute) on their Learjet fleet. This is the first and only time that a UK based operator has been awarded this highest level of accreditation.
What this means is that AirMed not only complies substantially with the EURAMI accreditation standards but they also demonstrate proven capabilities in air transports of special high risk patients (e.g. IABP, ARDS, neonates, NO ventilation etc) providing continued high level care. In fact, during 2010, over 30% of the flights carried out by AirMed were intensive care.
AirMed owns, operates and maintains all nine of their aircraft which are all currently based at Oxford Airport. They are the only company based in the UK that operates jets (Learjet 35A’s) for air ambulance and both of their Learjet 35A’s are approved to operate worldwide.
The rest of the fleet comprises of four Piper Cheyenne pressurised turboprops, which are ideal for those repatriations throughout Europe and into Northern Africa, and also three non-pressurised piston Piper aircraft which provide the most cost effective form of transport for very stable patients requiring an air ambulance throughout the UK, Ireland and northern Europe.
In February 2011 AirMed launched Phase 1 of a brand new world class neonatal transfer service. This service is available on the Learjet 35A’s and the Piper Cheyenne IIIA’s and will enable the movement of critically ill babies.
This is an extremely specialist area that is becoming more highly sought after as socio-economic changes take place leading to higher premature and multiple birth rates. Alpha Paramedic & Ambulance Service is delighted to be able to provide this service through AirMed.
